Fishes and fairgrounds

Could you see a sign like this and not go inside to look?

Thought not. I got my market days mixed up (it's Broadway Saturday, Columbia Sunday) so we were wandering aimless down a deserted Columbia Road when I saw this outside what used to be Jessie and Buddug's shop. Up a shonky flight of stairs, we found a pop-up shop from the Dialogue Collective.

Timed to coincide with London Jewellery Week, the shop displayed work by members of the collective and invited designers, with a challenge to produce pieces for £20 each. And what pieces; there were pompom necklaces, graphic badges, metal cuffs, delicate necklaces and porcelain pendants. A little frustratingly, nothing was labelled so I can't credit designers but here are my favourites:

I took Amy Death's fish-hook pendant home, and wore it yesterday for a trip to Carter's Steam Fair.

It's hard to know how to dress in the heat, especially for a girl like me who is most at home in thick black tights and wintery dresses. But I took my cue from the parched fish around my neck and went nautical with my Forever 21 sailor dress, vintage denim shorts and Office plaited leather sandals. I'm also wearing some cheap shades from Barcelona that I think make me look a little like the evil monobrowed baby from the Simpsons. In fact, it's almost uncanny.

Carter's is an old-fashioned fairground where the dodgems are named after 50's and 60's singers and the music blaring out is rockabilly tunes rather than pop hits. Even the burger bar is cute:
